A family record · Palermo, 1413 → Detroit, now
There have been Tom Lucidos for over six hundred years. The earliest record is from Palermo, in 1413.
By the count of my cousin Steve Lucido, who has been digging through the archives for a book on the family, history holds at least 26 Thomas Lucidos and 19 Tommaso Lucidos. These are the records found so far.
Tommaso de Lucido of Palermo is granted a vineyard in the Falsomiele district by emphyteusis, for 18 tarì a year. The grant comes from Donna Letizia Villaraut, acting for the nobleman Simone de Lanzirotti.
Emphyteusis was a long-term lease, often for life or longer. The tenant worked and improved the land and paid a small fixed rent each year.
